How to break Satan’s hold on your Children

The moment I finished writing and publishing my second book, The Path of the Chosen Warriors—a book centered on spiritual warfare and breaking free from spiritual bondage—the devil began to attack me.

And do you know how he did it? Through one of my nephews, whom I helped raise.

This book came at a time when I was learning more about spiritual warfare and the mysteries behind our dreams. The Lord gave me the idea for this book through a vision of a couple getting lost in a storm and ending up in a strange town.

At first, I didn’t know how I would write a book that could help readers understand the importance of their dreams or how to use spiritual warfare prayers to overcome the enemies they faced. But when I went to the Lord about it, the story began to unfold in my mind, one chapter at a time.

Interestingly, the entire story was never revealed to me in advance. As I began writing, I learned to depend on the Lord, seeking Him every time I needed direction.

This process helped me to understand how the disciples relied on God for inspiration in their writing. Before starting each chapter, I would pray: “Lord, help me write this book in the right order and for the right readers.” And just like that, the words would start to flow.

Through The Path of the Chosen Warriors, I realized that my writing was not just about entertaining readers but also to bring them deliverance. God was using my writing to communicate His truths in ways that were easier for people to understand—much like Jesus did through parables.

With this recognition of my writing as a calling, the enemy began to challenge and frustrate me.

My nephew became an instrument the devil used against me. He was not kind in the things he said or did. Many times, I wondered what lesson I was supposed to learn through this. One morning, the Lord revealed to me that it was indeed the devil using him against me.

By the time I finished writing and publishing The Path of the Chosen Warriors, I had also become a widow, just two months after marrying my best friend. (You can download the first five chapters of this book below to learn more about that story.)

During those difficult months, my nephew’s behavior and words brought me to tears on more than one occasion. His actions became so disruptive that I even had to involve the police. The situation lasted over three years and didn’t resolve until the end of 2018.

Although it felt like the devil was having a field day at my expense, God was strengthening me in the process. My prayer life deepened as I learned to pray spiritual warfare prayers and remain persistent, even when I felt like giving up on my nephew. Instead of letting bitterness take root, I started praying for him every time negative thoughts crept into my mind. I redirected my prayers, targeting the spiritual forces at work behind his behavior.

It’s only when we study God’s Word and understand scriptures like Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)—“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”—that we recognize who our real enemies are. They are not the people we see every day but the spiritual forces influencing them.

Many times, through visions and dreams, God would  show me what was happening in the spiritual realm for my family. On one occasion, I saw myself casting out a slug-like demon from that same nephew.

"These experiences with my nephew inspired a specific chapter in my book, A Shattered Life Restored, which deals with breaking Satan’s hold on our children. The Lord even gave me the scripture reference to use as the weapon against the devil for that scene through another vision. This vision involved my younger nephew, who was chased by a homosexual/cross-dressing spirit. When I woke up from that dream, I immediately began to use the scripture given to me and prayed against that spirit. Then I anointed my nephew with olive oil all over his private area, rear end, and head to protect his mind."

For anyone who wants to believe that such behaviors are inherent or “born this way,” I have learned through God’s revelations that this is not so. God used these dreams to teach me about the spiritual forces at work, not just in one nephew, but in several of them.

Matthew 24-30 says, “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? From whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”

For All Praying moms and dads

God often reveals what the enemy is doing in our lives—and in our children’s lives—while it’s still in the seed stage. He does this so we can take action in prayer and fasting to uproot it before it takes deep root.

As the parable shows, if we leave these “tares” to grow alongside the good seed, they can become intertwined and harder to remove, risking our children’s futures.

Whenever I receive a vision or revelation about someone in my family, I immediately begin praying against the enemy's plans. I cancel the assignments of the devil and commit to praying fervently, sometimes for an entire week.

It’s far better to fight the enemy when his plans are in the seed stage than to confront him when it's formed a stronghold and matured.

In A Shattered Life Restored, I included the scripture God gave me in a vision and used it to create prayer points for the fictional couple as they fought for their son’s deliverance. These prayers, combined with fasting, mirror what I have done in my own battles and what I encourage others to do.

A Prayer for Protection Over Your Children

Here’s a prayer you can use as a parent to reclaim your child from the enemy’s grip. I learned this prayer from a pastor who used it when the enemy was trying to take his daughter’s life during childbirth. Using your God-given parental authority, declare this prayer over your child, personalizing it as needed:

"I invoke a divine restriction order over death, hell, and the grave. You cannot have my child. He/She is mine; I take him/her back. I redeem my child by the blood of Jesus from the hand of the enemy in the name of Jesus."

You can also personalize scriptures like Psalms 35, 27, 91, or 23 and pray them over your children before bedtime. Teaching your children to pray these scriptures with you can help them develop a habit of turning to God’s Word for protection and comfort. Let the Word of God be the last thing they hear before sleeping.

How to Break Satan’s Hold Over Your Children

Breaking the devil’s grip on your children requires commitment to prayer, fasting, and walking righteously before the Lord. God reveals things not only through dreams but also through the Holy Spirit. While I tend to receive visions, others may hear from God differently. The key is to stay spiritually alert and ready to act.

Here’s what you can do:

1. Pray at Midnight: This is when the enemy often sets plans into motion. Use this time to counterattack and cancel their schemes.

2. Act Immediately: After any troubling dream about your children, don’t wait days to pray. Confront it right away in prayer.

3. Develop a Consistent Prayer Life: Ask the Holy Spirit to help you and your family prioritize prayer and spiritual discipline, especially in challenging times.

4. Fast Regularly: Fasting enhances your spiritual sensitivity and empowers your prayers to break strongholds.

This year, as we face uncertain times, let’s commit to seeking God’s protection and guidance for our families. Pray for discernment to recognize God’s will and for the courage to follow His path, even when it’s difficult.
