Have you ever watched a fight and noticed what really happens?
Take, for instance, a war movie—we’ve all seen many. When one side strikes, the other doesn’t just stand there and take it. What do they do? They fight back. The battle continues until one side is worn out and defeated.
The Bible reminds us: “The race is not to the swift, but to those who can endure.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) That’s what we need to pray and ask God to help us with—endurance—especially when we engage in warfare prayer. Warfare prayer means using the Word of God as a weapon against the enemy. These are not “baby prayers.”
Be Prepared for Battle in Spiritual Warfare
Don’t think that just because you’re covered under the blood of Jesus and pray with His authority (Luke 10:19), the fight against your spiritual enemies will be easy.
Yes, the victory was secured when Jesus declared, “It is finished” on the cross, but we still have a role to play. Unfortunately, many Christians are afraid to face their battles, even with God fighting for them. They remind me of the Israelites who, after witnessing all the miracles God performed against Pharaoh, still brought back a bad report out of fear.
God is a mighty warrior. “The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is His name.” (Exodus 15:3) We are soldiers in His army, called to fight against the devil and his schemes. The Word of God is our weapon, and while the battle is already won, don’t think the devil will surrender easily.
His best strategies are frustration, discouragement, and fear. But Jesus taught us to be persistent in prayer, just like the widow who kept coming to the unjust judge, demanding justice against her adversary (Luke 18:1-8).
DON’T BE TOO QUICK TO QUIT
The Lord once instructed me to embark on 21 days of midnight prayers against the spirit of witchcraft. It was a spiritual battle unlike any I’d faced before, and I learned valuable lessons during those days that I now share with you..
Here are 3 key experiences from my spiritual battle:
Violent threats meant to inflict fear.
But I held onto God’s promise: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17)
The enemy tried to create strife.
The devil worked through someone close to me, but I prayed and asked God to control my words: “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psalm 141:3)
Attacks on loved ones.
My brother was suddenly struck with severe pain to distract me from prayer. One night, God gave me a vision revealing the source of the attack. I wrote specific prayer points and continued to pray for his protection.
Through this experience, I remembered how soldiers in war movies would hide their loved ones before heading into battle. The enemy often uses distractions to break your focus, especially when you’re making progress in prayer.
7 Tips to Fight and Win Your Next Spiritual Battle
Trust God—He has your back. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Pray covering prayers over yourself and your loved ones.
Repent before you pray to ensure the devil has no foothold in your life.
Don’t let fear or distractions stop you. Remember, resistance from the enemy is often a sign that you’re making progress.
Pray for those the devil may use against you. They are not the enemy but pawns. Love them and pray for their salvation.
Ask God for endurance when you feel overwhelmed. The race is not for the swift, but for those who endure. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
Pray persistently until the enemy is defeated.
