When Your Values and a Relationship Clash: How to Stay True to Yourself

Have you ever found yourself wondering:

"Is it really worth it to stick to my standards if it means losing someone I care about?"

You're not alone.

Standing firm in your values — especially when it comes to virtue — can feel lonely, painful, and even confusing at times. Yet, it’s often in these moments of loss that our character is most beautifully shaped.

Virtue is defined as behavior showing high moral standards. In today’s world, living with virtue — particularly around purity, chastity, and honoring God’s design for relationships — is becoming rarer. But that doesn’t make it any less powerful.

In my novel Her Treasured Love, the character Gabriela faces this very crossroad. As her feelings for a charming man named Vincent grow, she's forced to confront the uncomfortable reality that their beliefs about purity are not aligned.

Here’s a glimpse into her struggle:

“Do you believe in sex before marriage?” Gabriela asked. Vincent replied, ‘I believe in marriage, but the whole chastity part of waiting—not so much.’ She whispered, ‘Yes,’ when asked if she believed in waiting. Eventually, Vincent sighed, ‘Best we say goodbye tonight.’”

Gabriela’s story highlights an important truth about virtue: It will sometimes cost you relationships that aren’t built to last. And that’s okay.

Choosing to honor God with your body, mind, and heart is never a loss — even if it feels like it at the moment. When you choose virtue, you’re trusting that God has someone for you who will honor you, respect your convictions, and build a relationship centered on His love and truth.

Here are a few reminders if you're struggling to hold on to your virtue:

  • You are not outdated. God’s Word doesn’t change with the culture. Purity and self-respect will always be valuable.

  • True love waits. The right person will not pressure you to compromise your standards — they will honor and protect them.

  • God honors obedience. Every sacrifice you make for Him will never be in vain. He sees your heart and your faithfulness.

It’s a powerful scene that shows the strength it takes to choose virtue over momentary affection.

If Gabriela’s story resonates with you, you’ll love diving deeper into her journey in Her Treasured Love — where faith, healing from past wounds, and trusting God for true love take center stage.

Final Encouragement:

Holding on to your virtue may cost you a few relationships — but it will never cost you the right one. God is writing your love story in a way that honors your faithfulness. Trust His timing, trust His plan, and trust that the wait will be worth it.

I've been attempting to expand my wine business in my hometown in White Plains, NY. For the past 7 years, I do play the lottery in my spare time, but on this blessed day I came across an article about Lord Meduza's spell to win the lottery. I contacted Lord Meduza to see if it would work and after I agreed to his terms and conditions for completing the task for me, he performed his magical powers for me and within 48 hours, he provided me with the numbers I needed to play the lottery, and I followed his directions. I found out at the store that I was the winner of a $105 million jackpot. For a moment I…
