How to Wait on the Lord and Walk in Victory

Updated: Apr 4

Many people struggle with waiting on God. We pray, we ask, and then—what next? Do we just sit back and wait for Him to do the rest?

To help you understand what waiting on God truly looks like, let me paint a picture in your mind.

A Lesson from Nature

Think of your prayer as a seed planted in the ground. When a seed is sown, it doesn’t sprout instantly—it needs time, care, and the right conditions to grow. God teaches us so much about the spiritual through creation if we pay attention.

When a seed is planted, what happens next?

  1. Rain waters it.

  2. Sunlight gives it energy.

  3. Carbon dioxide sustains it.

Without these, the seed would wither and die. Now, imagine if God withheld the rain for weeks or months—those trees would start to dry up, no matter how much sunlight they received.

Now, let’s connect the dots. Your prayer is like that seed. Many of us pray but then do nothing, expecting God to do it all. However, just as seeds need water, light, and air, so do our prayers require nurturing to bring forth a harvest.

How Do You Wait on God?

You don’t just plant a seed and walk away; you nurture it. Spiritually, we “water” our prayers through:

Praise & Worship

Thanksgiving

These are spiritual weapons that keep our faith strong and our prayers active.

Praise & Worship: Watering Your Seed

Praise and worship invite God's presence and remind us of His power. If you don’t know where to start, the book of Psalms is a great guide. You can read passages like Psalm 97, 98, 104, 105, 107, 145, and 150 as part of your praise time.

Some simple ways to praise God:

  • “Lord, I honor You.”

  • “You are worthy of all praise.”

  • “There is no one like You.”

Sing, worship, and declare His goodness over your life.

Thanksgiving: The Key to Breakthrough

Thanksgiving is like the rain that keeps your seed alive. It works hand in hand with faith—because when you thank God in advance, you're expressing trust that He has already answered.

Instead of repeating the same prayer every day, shift to thanksgiving:

  • “Lord, thank You for answering my prayer.”

  • “I believe my breakthrough is on the way.”

  • “I trust that You are working all things out for my good.”

Just as trees dry up without rain, your prayers can become stagnant without thanksgiving. Don’t let discouragement stop you—keep watering your seed!

My Personal Revelation

I used to pray about things repeatedly and then forget about them, moving on to something else. When I didn’t see results, I felt frustrated. But then God revealed something powerful during my morning devotions:

🔹 I didn’t need to keep asking—I needed to shift into thanksgiving.

The moment I started thanking God instead of constantly asking, I saw breakthroughs! That’s when the idea for this post came to me.

So, if you’re praying for your spouse to walk in God’s will, or for your children to turn away from bad influences, don’t stop at just asking. Water your prayers daily with praise, worship, and thanksgiving.

Final Encouragement

When you wait on God, don’t just sit and wonder. Actively nurture your prayers with faith, praise, and thanksgiving. Keep going, even when you don’t see immediate results—because just like a seed in the ground, God is working beneath the surface!
