Falling into sin means giving in to temptations that lead us away from God. It happens when we ignore the promptings of the Holy Spirit or our conscience and choose actions that go against His will. God’s Spirit always warns us about the dangers of sin, but ultimately, it’s our choice to listen or ignore His voice.
When we fall into sin, we become weak to the desires of the flesh—enslaved by things that look pleasing but lead to bondage.
In my book, The Path of the Chosen Warriors, the people of Sodom Shadows fell into sin and became captives to the demon god of the sea, Abaddon. Driven by greed and rebellion, they sought freedom from God’s laws, which they saw as restrictive. But in their pursuit of independence, they unknowingly placed themselves in spiritual bondage.
This story reminds us of an important truth: the devil knows the weaknesses within us and uses them to lure us into sin. But what many don’t realize is that God reveals these weaknesses—not to shame us, but so we can pray against them and break free before they control us.
Recognizing the Seeds of Sin
We are all born with a mix of good and evil desires. As the Bible says, “Let both the wheat and the tares grow together until the harvest” (Matthew 13:30). When God reveals an area of weakness, it’s an opportunity to take authority and pray for deliverance.
God gave the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) to the children of Israel to show them what sin was and help them walk in His righteousness. Similarly, Galatians 5:19-21 lists the works of the flesh—things the enemy uses to keep us in darkness:
"Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.”
Does Facing Temptation Mean You’ve Sinned?
No. Temptation itself is not sin—it’s a test of self-control. As 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
God allows temptation to help us grow spiritually, but sometimes deeper spiritual factors are at play. For instance, repeated sinful patterns can be linked to what’s known as an evil altar. This happens when you keep engaging in a particular sin, creating a spiritual altar that attracts demonic influence. In the same way, when you spend time with the Lord through prayer, worship, and obedience, you build a holy altar—a space for God's presence to dwell and commune with you.
Even after repenting, if an evil altar remains, it can cause you to fall back into the same sin, even years later. Destroying these altars through prayer, fasting, and spiritual warfare is essential to breaking free from these patterns and ensuring they no longer have power over you. If you want to learn more about how I dealt with an evil altar and strengthened my connection with God through holy altars, check out my post here.
In Predestined Love, Maria’s journey reflects my own experience of overcoming sin and learning to recognize God’s promptings. Like Maria, I didn’t initially see the ways God was warning me of my weaknesses. But through repentance and seeking Him more deeply, I began to grow spiritually and understand His guidance. I am so thankful for his promptings and my spiritual ears now recognizing him even better.
God’s Grace and Deliverance
Even when we fall, God is good. He shows us the way out and strengthens us to stand firm. I’ll never forget when I felt discouraged, and God gave me a vision of Himself walking on water, reminding me to keep my eyes on Him.
So let me ask you:
Have you ever sought the easy way out, only to realize that patience and faith would have been a better foundation?
Did this post help you recognize how God might be prompting you to avoid falling into sin?
