When You Can’t See God’s Blessings: Trusting Him Beyond the Fence

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
Last Sunday, I had an unexpected lesson in faith while standing in my backyard.

A family friend was helping us rebuild the fence around the yard under the hot Jamaican sun. As we neared the final section, our conversation turned to a mango tree near the fence. For three years, we eagerly watched it blossom, only to be disappointed when it never bore fruit.
Frustrated, I suggested cutting it down, believing it was useless. But then, from the other side of the fence, our friend called out, “Leave it! There are young mangoes growing out here.”
We ran over to look—and sure enough, there were small mangoes growing on the outside of the fence where we couldn’t see!
Trusting God Beyond What We Can See
In that moment, I realized God was teaching me something powerful.
So often, we only see the "blossoms" in our lives—the small signs of promise—but no immediate fruit. We pray, we believe, and yet it feels like nothing is happening. But just like that mango tree, what we can’t see is that God is already working—preparing blessings for us beyond the "fence" of our circumstances.
I was struggling with this exact thing. I had prayed about something, felt led by God to pursue it, but then—silence. Nothing seemed to be happening, and discouragement began to set in. But God used that moment with the mango tree to remind me:
🔹 Don’t rely on what you see—trust in what He has promised.
🔹 Even when you don’t see results, God is working on the other side of the fence.
Standing on God’s Word
Whenever doubt tries to creep in, I remind myself of these powerful scriptures:

📖 God is not slack concerning His promises for my life. – 2 Peter 3:9
📖 No weapon formed against me shall prosper. – Isaiah 54:17
📖 Every evil speaker speaking against me shall be silenced. – Psalm 140:11
📖 God will not forsake the work of His hands in my life. – Psalm 138:8
📖 I am blessed and highly favored. – Luke 1:28
📖 God will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. – 2 Timothy 4:18
📖 The pit the enemy set for me, God will deliver me from it and let the enemy fall into his own pit. – Psalm 141:10
📖 God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent. – Numbers 23:19
📖 Guard my words, O Lord—keep watch over the door of my heart. – Psalm 141:3
If you’re feeling discouraged or waiting on God for an answer, remember that your "fruit" may already be growing—you just might not see it yet. Keep trusting Him!
