7 Spiritual Weapons for battling your Spiritual Enemies

Updated: Sep 13

First of all:

Who are our Spiritual Enemies?

Paul tells us who they are in Ephesians 6:12: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

They are the unseen forces operating behind people; whether friends, family or strangers. It is why Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 that, “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

This was to keep us from the temptation of attacking the person through whom these entities operate—that is when we become carnal. Ephesians 6:12 is a verse we all need to memorise as Christians so we will always know where to aim our weapons. And while we are aiming our weapons against the right enemies, we will do what Jesus commands us to do in Matthew 5:44 with a lot more understanding. “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

So, what spiritual weapons have our heavenly Father given us to use?

Some of you might say that you only need the Armour of God as described in Ephesians 6:11-18. You are right to an extent, as the sword of the spirit/word of God is after all the ultimate weapon. But if you like many Christians who don't study the word and learn how to operate using it with power and authority then you will need to have other weapons in your arsenals until you grow in the knowledge of the word to pray effective prayers.

Here are 7 other spiritual weapons you can use to fight your Spiritual Enemies

The Blood of Jesus—This is one of the most effective weapons to use against all your spiritual enemies. God taught us through the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, of the power of applying the Blood in Exodus 12:21-24. He taught me also through a couple of dreams how to apply the blood and showed me the effect it has against the enemy. Here are 2 posts I wrote on what I learned about how to use the Blood of Jesus effectively. Learn how to use the blood of Jesus properly? And Do you know the Power in the Blood of Jesus?

Praise and Worship—Paul and Silas demonstrated the power of using this weapon when they were in bondage. (Acts 16:25-31)

Here is a recommended audible book by Darlene Zschech, the most popular worship leader whose music most of us listen to enter into God's presence, about experiences God's presence through worship. You can listen to the full audiobook when you sign up for a free trial on Audibles here.

Prayer—There are countless examples of persons in the Bible who have used prayer to gain victory over their enemies. One such example is of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20, praying to God to deliver Judah from the Moabites and the Ammonites. Also, many times, the enemy attacks us through our minds. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to, Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” Here is a simple prayer you can pray when the enemy attacks your mind. It’s based on this very verse. “I cast down every imagination and every high thing that Satan and his demons projects into my mind, and also while I pray, that he exalts against the knowledge of God and I bring them now into captivity to the obedience of Christ in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

The Fire of God—We can call upon the fire of God and trust that as he protected the Israelites in the wilderness by his fire (Exodus 13:21) so he will for us who trust in him. In my book—The Path of the Chosen Warriors, there is a scene where the new converts were using the fire of God to fight the demon god-Abbadon.

Thanksgiving—Being thankful demonstrates faith in God despite the way things look around you. While the enemy uses doubt and worry to defeat us, we can fight back with thanksgiving, holding on to what God promises us and counteract the devil’s doubt by confusing him.

Angels—Exodus 23:20-22, tells us, “Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.” Psalms 91:11 tells us, “For he (God) gives his angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways.” And Psalms 35:6 says, “Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.” This tells us that God has angels assigned to each of us to lead, guide, and overall protect us. It is, therefore, our right as his children to call upon these angels when we need help, guidance, or direction. Whenever you need to call upon these angels to fight for you, use the word of God—they respond to the word of God, so use it when you call them. Turn the scriptures like the ones above into prayers to call upon them. Here is another prayer example you can use. Father, thank you for having my best interest at heart. For giving me a good future, as you promised in Jeremiah 29:11. Thank you for sending your angels before me to lead and guide me to the place you have prepared for me. Help me be conscious of his presence and help me guard my word and actions around him as not to provoke him. Let your angel be an enemy unto my enemies and an adversary to my adversaries. Let your angels persecute my persecutors and make their way dark and slippery in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Name of Jesus—There is power in the name of Jesus. Demons tremble at his name, sick are make whole, salvation comes through his name and calling upon his name can deliver you too. Knowledge of scriptures that speaks of the power in the name of Jesus helps you stand in faith and authority to use it as a weapon. Here are a few scriptures to memorise to teach you where best to use the name of Jesus as a weapon.

  • Luke 10:17—Even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

  • Romans 10:13—For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  • Acts 4:12— And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

  • Acts 3:12-16— And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

  • Acts 3:6—But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene–walk!”

Now that you know other weapons besides the Word of God to fight your spiritual enemies with, go forth like the soldier you are and begin your training. Practice using each weapon until you master them. Go to Google and search for scriptures that speak about each of the seven listed above to gain more in-depth knowledge to have a greater advantage over your enemies. And remember; always repent of known and unknown sins. You don’t want to give the enemy an edge over you.

Christian or not, we all fall short daily. LET’S NOT be self-righteous or puffed up with pride thinking we need not repent because we can’t identify known sins, which is why when we pray we should ask God to forgive us for known and UNKNOWN SINS.
