7 Spiritual Weapons for battling your Spiritual Enemies

Updated: 13 hours ago

First of all:

Who are our Spiritual Enemies?

Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:12: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Our spiritual enemies are the unseen forces operating behind people—whether friends, family, or strangers. It’s why Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

This reminds us not to fall into the temptation of attacking the person through whom these entities operate—that’s when we become carnal. Ephesians 6:12 is a verse we all need to memorize so we will always know where to aim our weapons. And while aiming against the right enemies, we can obey Jesus’ command in Matthew 5:44 with greater understanding: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

The Armour of God vs. Additional Spiritual Weapons

Some may say that the Armour of God, described in Ephesians 6:11-18, is sufficient. The sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) is indeed the ultimate weapon. But for those still growing in their knowledge of the Word and learning to operate in its power and authority, additional spiritual weapons can be valuable tools in our arsenal.

Here are 7 spiritual weapons God has given us to combat our spiritual enemies.

The Blood of Jesus—The Blood of Jesus is one of the most effective weapons against all spiritual enemies. God demonstrated its power during the deliverance of the Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 12:21–24). The blood marked their homes and protected them from destruction.

God has also taught me through dreams how to apply the Blood of Jesus and shown me its incredible effect against the enemy. For a deeper understanding, check out these posts: Learn How to Use the Blood of Jesus Properly and Do You Know the Power in the Blood of Jesus?

2. Praise and Worship

Paul and Silas showed the power of praise and worship when they were imprisoned (Acts 16:25-31). Despite their circumstances, they worshiped God, and He responded by breaking their chains and opening prison doors. Worship confuses the enemy and shifts your focus from fear to faith. Start your day with worship, and you’ll notice a difference in your battles.

3. Prayer

Prayer is a direct line to God and one of the most powerful tools we have. King Jehoshaphat’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 20 is a great example of how prayer brought victory over Judah’s enemies.

The enemy often attacks our minds with doubt, fear, and lies. 2 Corinthians 10:5 instructs us to: “Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

Here’s a simple prayer you can use when the enemy attacks your mind:

Father, I cast down every imagination and high thing that Satan and his demons project into my mind. I bring them into captivity to the obedience of Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. The Fire of God

We can call upon the fire of God for protection and deliverance. Just as God protected the Israelites in the wilderness with His fire (Exodus 13:21), He can do the same for us. In my book, The Path of the Chosen Warriors, there is a powerful scene where new converts use the fire of God to battle the demon god Abbadon. This weapon can be used to destroy demonic strongholds and purify what the enemy seeks to corrupt.

5. Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving demonstrates faith in God’s promises, even when circumstances seem bleak. While the enemy uses doubt and worry to defeat us, thanksgiving shifts our focus to God’s goodness and confuses the enemy. Remember 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Practice gratitude daily to strengthen your spirit and weaken the enemy’s grip.

6. Angels

God has assigned angels to protect and guide His children. Exodus 23:20-22 promises: “Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared...”

Whenever you need their help, use scripture to call upon them. For example:

Father, thank You for sending Your angels to lead and guide me. Let them protect me and fight against my enemies. Let their way be dark and slippery, and let Your angel pursue them, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

7. The Name of Jesus There is power in the name of Jesus. Demons tremble, the sick are healed, and salvation comes through His name. Scriptures like Luke 10:17 remind us: “Even the devils are subject unto us through Thy name.” Memorize these verses to stand in faith and authority when using the name of Jesus:

  • Romans 10:13: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

  • Acts 4:12: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

·       Acts 3:6—But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene–walk!”

Final Encouragement

Now that you know these 7 spiritual weapons, go forth like the soldier you are and begin your training. Practice using each weapon until you master them. Search the scriptures for more verses that speak to these weapons and deepen your knowledge. Remember: always repent of known and unknown sins to deny the enemy any foothold in your life.

Christian or not, we all fall short daily. Let us not be self-righteous or puffed up with pride, thinking we have no need to repent. Instead, ask God to forgive both your known and unknown sins, as humility is a key to victory.
